Peak Performance for Athletes
Chiropractic care continues to become increasingly popular among athletes of all levels. Whether you are a high school cheerleader, a little league player, a collegiate swimmer, a mom who loves Zumba, a dad who likes to play golf or a professional football player, chiropractic care can help improve your performance, decrease pain, and help you recover from injuries faster.
Doctors of chiropractic are trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat biomechanical and pathological abnormalities in the spine and extremities. Through the use of various orthopedic and neurological testing, as well as diagnostic imaging, chiropractors are able to find areas in the body where joints may be misaligned, restricted, or injured. While there are many treatment modalities utilized by chiropractors, the one that is most common is the chiropractic adjustment.
What is an adjustment?
A chiropractic adjustment is a procedure in which a chiropractor uses their hands or a small instrument to administer a small, quick thrust to a joint of the spine or extremity. There are many different adjusting techniques that allow chiropractors to adjust people of all ages, sizes, and health conditions. An adjustment helps joints and bones maintain proper alignment and range of motion. Adjustments also help to decrease nociception (pain signals going to the brain) and increase proprioception (awareness of body position/movement).
Chiropractic adjustments also help to take pressure off of spinal nerves that innervate various muscle groups in the body, specifically those on either side of the spine. Athletes put a tremendous amount of stress on their bodies and often times experience muscle fatigue, weakness, or spasm as a result. By allowing the spinal nerves to function optimally, chiropractic adjustments can help prevent muscle imbalances, as well as help athletes recover from muscular injuries.
If you are ready to take your game to the next level, consider beginning chiropractic care and gain an advantage on your competition. Check out what these athletes had to say about chiropractic care:
“Chiropractic just makes you feel so much better. When I walk out of the clinic, I feel like I’m about three inches taller and everything’s in place. And as long as I see the chiropractor, I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game.”- Tom Brady
“I’ve been going to a chiropractor for as long as I can remember. It’s as important to my training as practicing my swing.”- Tiger Woods
“The game of life requires the edge that chiropractic provides. Chiropractic care allows me to lead a very active lifestyle. I have seen its value, both personally and professionally, among my friends and teammates.”- Jerry Rice

I was having numbness in my arms that had been going on for weeks. I couldn’t feel my hands. My arms and hands were constantly numb. The problem was so severe that I wasn’t able to sleep at night.
After a few weeks of chiropractic care, I started to notice some improvement. I knew that I was in the right hands with my care. Now my numbness is completely gone and I can sleep much better at night!
I have been under care for 6 months now and I am able to walk much better as well as exercise. I have been able to reduce the amount of Ibuprofen that I was taking. I can play with my kids again! I am a firm believer that chiropractic adjustments help relieve pain and discomfort. It does take time to heal from years of being out of alignment.
I was contemplating surgery for my condition before I started chiropractic care, but I did not want to do something that could impair my ability to have a normal life. Chiropractic was my last hope to feeling pain-free and having more mobility!
After a cruise I developed a disorder of my body’s balancing (vestibular) system. It caused headaches, back and neck pain, and the sensation that I was constantly being rocked on a boat. I was unable to walk. I was constantly stressed and was having trouble with my vision. I dried medication and physical therapy, but that only seemed to make the problem worse.
I waited three months before I finally tried chiropractic care. My headaches and back pain are now gone. I have been able to decrease mediation use and my quality of life has improved!
